2021 Signature Member Show

JUNE 15 - JULY 12, 2021

Juried by Susan kuznitsky

“ This is a very solid group of paintings. It is not easy for me on this side of the fence, so to speak. I have been on the being juried side many times. I am very sensitive to what it takes to put yourself out there. I take this job seriously and am very honored to have been asked to pick the award winners. For those of you that were not chosen, keep painting, keep entering and remember this is just one artist’s opinion.

“ How I jury a show: I like to get a sense of the whole show first. In the first run through some pieces will immediately catch my eye but I like to take a few days and look at the show each day to see if I agree with myself. Then I will look for: overall composition, the basics – use of color, value, lost and found edges, draftsmanship, mood (what is the story?), and lastly, that something beyond good technique, that thing that keeps me coming back, that provokes an emotional response.” ~ Judge Susan Kuznitsky

“Inside Looking Out” Maryann MullettThis is such a timely and thought-provoking painting.  It is a very relatable subject after this year plus that we just went through. The composition is simple yet effective. The color harmony is wonderful. The use of changing color while maintaining the strength of the value shape is masterfully done in the windowsill and molding as well as in the curtain. The little bits of sunlight coming in is just enough to evoke a sense of hope. It really got to me emotionally and I found myself returning to it over and over. Judge Susan Kuznitsky
