Excellence In Education - Young Adult Scholarship
In support of our mission to educate the public and promote soft pastels as a medium, the Pastel Society of Maine offers a scholarship to a graduating high school student aspiring to be an artist. Awarded annually to a Maine student interested in furthering their study of art after high school, the scholarship includes tuition for pastel classes valued up to $250. In addition to workshop tuition, the scholarship recipient receives pastel materials and a $250 gift card for college needs, an approximate value of $1000.
Eligibility: Any high school student (preferably a graduating senior) planning to continue in the academic study of art after graduating high school is eligible.
Judging: While PSME is a pastel society, we encourage all types of art in any medium and subject. The PSME Scholarship Committee defers to the selected high school’s art department to determine and announce the scholarship winner before the end of the school year.

2014 Scholarship was awarded to a Thornton Academy Senior
2015 Scholarship was awarded to a Portland Arts & Technology High School Senior
2016 Scholarship was offered to a Maine Girls’ Academy student
2017 Scholarship was awarded to a Kennebunk High School Senior
To support the educational component of our mission, the Pastel Society of Maine has established a financial hardship scholarship. This scholarship covers the tuition for one member to attend the pastel workshop, which is held in conjunction with the annual international juried exhibition. All PSME members are eligible to apply for consideration. Those members interested in applying for consideration should submit a short paragraph outlining their interest in attending the workshop, how they would benefit from attendance, and a statement of hardship.
